Details: Amazon.ca Charlie Watts will go down in history for the cowbell and sprawling backbeat which introduced "Honky Tonk Women", but jazz drumming was his first inspiration, and in the 1980s, blessed with the time and the financial wherewithal, he realised his long held dream of leading a jazz big band. Here he returns to a jazz theme again, though the music usually suggests something else. Every track is named after a jazz drummer, but Watts's musical references to his heroes are very personal and oblique. Most of the tracks are rock or world driven, with only "Max Roach" and "Airto" containing any explicit jazz. The double CD edition features six dance mixes that add a spring and focus not always evident in the originals, but they give no more hint of the drummers they honour. It would be interesting to see how many drum experts could spot the dedicatees in a blindfold test. --Mark Gilbert
